Although the quartet was definitively formed in 2016, the Maven Hill adventure began in 2013 at the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry high school in Lyon, by the meeting of Moe and Sam.
Both enrolled in the school's music class, the two friends quickly discover a common attraction for composition, as well as a mutual desire to approach music in its entirety. They begin to write their first compositions, and to rehearse together on a regular basis at "The Basement", the rehearsal place where the band still works. At this time, Moe is still a pianist who just started playing guitar, and Sam plays both guitar and drums.
The first musical ideas being crafted and the first lyrics being written, it is rather naturally that Yannick, a friend met at school in 2013, joins the duet at the end of 2014 as a bassist. Originally a drummer, he has nevertheless been playing bass for a few months, and fits perfectly into this global approach of music defended by the two founding members.
After having notably presented a first version of the track "Blame" (featured in “Magnetic”) to their final exams, the trio sets out to recruit a singer-guitarist in 2015, the last member required to carry out the project.
Following unsuccessful auditions with several musicians, the 3 mates finally make up their minds: the first lyrics being entirely written by Moe, the latter seems to be the natural candidate for the position of singer, despite a near-zero practice of singing at that time.
The need is thus reoriented: failing to recruit a singer-guitarist, the trio will direct its research towards a lead guitarist, and Moe will start to actively practice singing.
Thus, in April 2016, Yannick approaches Kevin, his lifelong friend and guitarist who has been practicing for a few years for his personnal pleasure. From the first rehearsal with him, the magic seems to operate, the trio seems to perfectly turn into a quartet: Maven Hill is born.
From the very beginning of the band's four-some adventure, the mission is clear: keep on writing coherent songs while progressing as musicians, since three of them have the particularity of being self-taught in their main instrument. Moreover, each member quickly agrees on a common vision that is still relevant today: without a solid content and a true alchemy, the band won’t make its content public, no matter how long it takes.
Following the recording of a first 3-tracks live session ("Round-Trip Session", 2018), Maven Hill tours the concert halls of the Lyon region from 2018 to 2019, crafting their sound and honing their compositions. This stage experience reinforces the live-oriented aspect of their music, and allows them to define the scope of their future project: exit the EP format, the quartet will directly release an album, since all the songs written now present a certain coherence from a musical and narrative perspective.
From the summer of 2019, the band invests only in the preparation of this 10-tracks concept album. After 6 months of refinement, the recording process of the album starts in March 2020, in the middle of the Covid-19 first wave. The constraints imposed ever since will strongly complicate the production of this record, but the project will finally reach its musical outcome in December 2021.
Thus, 6 years after their first rehearsals as a quartet, Maven Hill released their debut album "Magnetic" in October 2022, representing a first achievement of the resilience and the passion that drive the 4 friends since so many years.
